Designed a precise product walkthrough for Mergewell, showing engineering managers how automated PR merge queues eliminate branch conflicts and accelerate release cycles.
The Product Challenge
Explaining Git merge train mechanics, parallel CI runs, and queue priorities visually in under 40 seconds is a compression problem — and the audience is split. Engineering managers need the mechanics to be right; non-technical stakeholders need the story to be followable. A diagram would bore the first group and confuse the second, while a screen recording of a real merge queue would be illegible at speed. The video had to make automated pull request queuing, test conflict resolution, and backlog health analytics visible as a single flowing system, without overwhelming either audience.
The Production Approach
Created an intuitive animated git-tree visualization that dynamically resolves merge conflicts on screen — branches form, collide, and clear in front of the viewer, so the merge queue is something you watch happen rather than something you are told about. Clean dashboard KPI readouts anchor the abstraction in numbers engineering leaders recognize: velocity metrics, queue health, team productivity savings called out in concise badges. Fluid dashboard pan-and-zooms highlight those velocity metrics without losing the tree, animated Git branching and pull request simulation keep the mechanics honest, and subtle tactile keyboard typing and interface feedback sounds make the whole system feel operated by real hands.
